LONDON (SE) - Darren Bent's penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time earned Sunderland a 1-0 win over Manchester City at the Stadium of Light.

Bent converted the spot kick after he had been fouled by City defender Micah Richards.

Carlos Tevez missed an easy chance for City in the 16th minute and Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet made outstanding saves from Yaya Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Sunderland's best chance in open play fell to substitute Danny Wellbeck.
